Stratford University to Hold Grand Opening Event for Richmond Campus

Stratford University will hold a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony in honor of their new Richmond campus, located at 11104 W. Broad Street in Glen Allen, Va. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. It will be attended by notable government officials. An open house will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Building at NOVA-Woodbridge

On Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m., officials will break ground for a building that will add almost 84,000 square feet of academic space to the Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Speakers include Sen. Charles J. Colgan, Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart, Virginia Community College System Chancellor Glenn DuBois, and NOVA President Robert G. Templin Jr. The Woodbridge Campus is located at 15200 Neabsco Mills Road. The program will begin in the campus theater.

everal students in PWCS middle schools are going far beyond their usual homework this week as they study and prepare for the Prince William County Spelling Bee on Friday, March 11 at Godwin Middle School. The event is co-sponsored by the “News & Messenger” and the Bel Air Women’s Club.

Participants and their parents or guardians should arrive at Godwin Middle School by 6 p.m. The doors will open to the public at 7 p.m. Godwin Middle School is located at 14800 Darbydale Avenue, Woodbridge.

Bus Delays Possible in Some Areas Due to Potential Flooding

From Prince William County Public Schools:

There is a forecast for heavy rains and flooding tonight through Thursday night. If this forecast is accurate, then there may be flooding in some parts of Prince William County. These high water areas will potentially cause delays in bus operations Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon, and possibly Friday morning. If you live in these affected areas, the Office of Transportation Services will make every effort to get to your bus stops as quickly as possible. You should expect that some buses may be late due to rerouting. We will not know the precise areas that might be affected until after any potential flooding occurs.

Arts Festival on March 26 Will Showcase Student Artists

The County Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, March 26 this year at Battlefield High School, 15000 Graduation Drive in Haymarket. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

The event will showcase student artwork from the elementary, middle, and high school classrooms of all art teachers, including both two- and three-dimensional pieces. Artwork will be on display throughout the hallways on the first level of the school and in the gymnasium. Performances in music, dance, and theatre will also be featured.

2011 Summer School Program Now Posted

The 2011 summer school dates are posted to allow families and the community ample opportunity to schedule summer activities.

Elementary and Middle School Remediation Program: Tuesday, July 5, 2011, to Friday, July 22, 2011, [three-week program] (Monday, July 4, 2011, is a holiday). 

High School Program: Monday, June 27, 2011, to Friday, August 5, 2011, [six-week program] (Monday, July 4, 2011, is a holiday) at Forest Park High School.
