Chef Robert Barolin at City Square Café in Old Town Manassas is featuring wine classes on Thursdays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Barolin, a former wine representative for various vineyards, will teach a class about “Getting to Know your Wines.” He’ll discuss student’s wine knowledge, how to taste wine, what to look for when purchasing wine, which wines are trending, teach the names and origin of the wine grapes, discuss why the same grape tastes different in different regions, instruct about the best wine and food pairings and test students’ final knowledge with a blind wine tasting. Class size is limited to eight people. Cost is $35 per week or $250 in advance. Call 703.369.6022 to sign-up.

Two red and two white wines will be tasted in every class and paired with light hors d’oeuvres. Attendees must sign up for all eight classes.

Bertucci's Collects Toys for Tots

Bertucci's Collects Toys for Tots

It’s the holiday season, and it’s nice to see local businesses helping to bring Christmas to those less fortunate.  One such business is Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant at 8114 Stonewall Shops Square in Gainesville.  As I walked in for lunch today I noticed a box decorated with festive wrapping paper and bearing the familiar Toys for Tots sign.  The box was already half-full of games and toys.  I will be sure to swing back by and add to it very soon!
