Assistant Principal Arrested On Child Pornography Charges | News
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- A school administrator in Northern Virginia has been arrested by the FBI on child porn charges.
Charges against Joshua Myers, 29, of Warrenton, include possession and distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, agents uncovered Myers' illegal activity through an undercover investigation of people using peer-to-peer file sharing software to view and trade child porn.
"It's scary that it's so close to home. We entrust our children to the schools," said Angie Chumley who has four children that attend Greenville.
"We sat them all down and told them what happened. We didn't do into detail. But we asked them if there was any time there were along with Mr. Myers and did anything inappropriate happen or said or any pictures taken. You got to have that conversation, " said Chumley. She said none of them said anything inappropriate happened between them and Mr. Myers.
But federal officials allege Myers participated in an online chat with an undercover agent where he allegedly provided his password to folders on his computer containing child pornography. Myers also told the agent that he had traveled to California to have sex with a child and had engaged in sexual contact with children between the ages of 9 and 14 years old. The undercover agent was able to view several videos containing child pornography using Myers' password to his shared folder.
Myers was arrested Wednesday at his home after a search was conducted at the residence. Court documents reveal Myers allegedly admitted to his conversations with the undercover agent. He also told authorities he had child pornography stored on a thumb drive and on his work-issued laptop at school.
According to Fauquier County Schools, Joshua Myers was to become the new principal at Brumfield Elementary School next month. He has been an assistant principal at Greenville Elementary School in Nokesville for the last three years.
Myers made his first appearance in federal court in Alexandria before Magistrate Judge John F. Anderson Thursday morning.
