Manassas Mosque receives threat
News

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County Police are investigating a threat to the Manassas Mosque that occurred overnight on Wednesday.

A man claiming to be from the Jewish Defense League left a voice message on the Mosque's phone that said if one Jew was killed in the California shooting, he would retaliate against the Mosque.

The caller said, "We'll do to your people what you did to them. We are checking now to see if one Jew has been killed or shot in California.  If that has been that case, we say, never again....The Holocaust."

Imam Abu Nahidian of the Manassas Mosque reported the threat to police.

"What do you say for people who don't have much knowledge. We already protested against ISIS and all of these things before, many times," said Nahidian.

When asked if he took the threatening man seriously, Nahidian had a simple response.

"Frankly, no."

Nahidian says that terrorists have hijacked the name 'Islam'. He says there is nothing about Islam that promotes killing innocent people.

"Terrorists have nothing to do with Islam," said Nahidian.

"In no point in the Holy Quran does it say 'you go kill the people.'"

Nahidian went on to further say he wanted to teach those who threaten to cause his people harm.

"It's our responsibility to teach them. My responsibility is not to retaliate. I'm not going to say because you curse me, I curse you back. Because you are going to shoot me, I'm going to shoot you first. No, I won't do that."

WUSA9 has reached out to the Jewish Defense League, but has not heard back yet.
