WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County police say a man who was stabbed by his girlfriend has also been charged following an investigation into the incident.

According to police officials, Richard Gregg Davis of Woodbridge was stabbed on Dec. 27. At the time, Davis claimed that a man he did not know stabbed him and tried to rob him while walking on Harborview Court, say police. Their investigation revealed some inconsistencies in the initial report which were later determined to be false, according to police.

Police say they later found out that Davis' girlfriend, Cynthia Nelson, had stabbed him after an altercation at a home on Harborview Court. The two had an argument before the stabbing, according to police.

Nelson has been charged with malicious wounding and is being held without bond.

Davis was also charged. He was charged with filing a false police report and has a court appearance set for March 17.
