DALE CITY, Va. (WUSA) -- Virginia State Police say three cars were involved in a chain-reaction car accident on Interstate 95 northbound in Dale City Tuesday near the 156 mile marker at approximately 7:45 a.m.
According to Virginia Sate Police, a Dodge Ram and a Kia Spectra were stopped due to traffic in the left northbound lane when a 2010 Ford Econoline van rear-ended the Dodge Ram. The Ram then pushed into the Kia Spectra.
The driver of the Econoline van, 36-year-old Kevin L. Mullins of Stafford, Va. died at the scene. State police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All northbound lanes of I-95 were back open by 9:38 a.m.
State police continue to investigate the cause of the crash but say that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
