Man Runs Out of Car and Smashes Windshield Va. Accident | News
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WUSA) - After a two-vehicle crash on I-66 Monday evening, the driver of one car got out and jumped onto four other vehicles, breaking the windshield of one of them, according to Virginia State Police.
At approximately 6:14 p.m. Monday, police received a report of a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 66-West of Exit 14. A Honda that had been stopped on the right shoulder suddenly swerved into the westbound travel lane and struck a cargo van. The impact forced the Honda back off the roadway and into the right, cement Jersey wall.
Multiple eyewitnesses at the scene told police that before a trooper arrived on the scene, the van's driver got out and went up to the Honda to see if the driver was okay. The driver of the Honda, Corbin G. Shannon, 21, of Oakton, Va., threw open his door and ran into westbound traffic, police said.
He then jumped onto a total of four westbound vehicles, landing on the windshield of the first vehicle and smashing it in, police said.
When the trooper arrived, Shannon had reached the left shoulder of the westbound lanes and was standing there. Rescue units called for a helicopter, which took him Fairfax Inova Hospital. Use of alcohol or drugs has been ruled out by police in this incident.
Westbound lanes of I-66 were shut down for about 30 minutes for the helicopter landing and to clear the roadway of the vehicles involved in the incident.
