Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball

Last Chance to Visit "From Cows to Condos" Exhibit

The Manassas Museum has been hosting “From Cows to Condo” exhibit since October 3 of last year. The exhibit will be ending on September 6, so if you did not get a chance to visit yet you should plan to head there soon! It is an opportunity to learn about Manassas and Prince William County’s 20th Century transformation from an agricultural community to a suburban community.

The Manassas Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and Mondays on Federal Holidays. The hours of visitation are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Adults are $5.00, seniors over 60 and children are $4.00, and children under 6 are free.

Bloomingdale's to Open First Outlet Store

Bloomingdale’s opened their first international location this year when they opened a store in Dubai and now they are opening their first outlet store. This Saturday, August 20, Bloomingdale’s is going to be opening its first outlet store at the Potomac Mills mall. The store’s opening celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting, refreshments, and local entertainment from Urban Nation H.I.P – H.O.P Choir of Washington D.C.

Arnola Orlick, the Senior Vice President of Outlet Stores and former division principal of Federated Department Stores (which is now Macy’s, Inc.) will be leading the ribbon cutting ceremony along with Mark Cechini, the Operating Vice President of Outlet Stores and Former General Manager of Bloomingdale’s at The Shops in Riverside.

The new Bloomingdale’s outlet store is located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Suite 307 in Prince William, VA. The store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

PWC Presents a Free Concert this Weekend

The United States Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants are on tour and giving a free concert this weekend. The concert is this Saturday, August 14, at 7:00 p.m. in Sean T. Connaughton Community Plaza in Woodbridge, VA. Come out and enjoy this free concert presented by your very own Prince William County Government!

 

Prince William County Fair: Virginia's Largest County Fair

This Saturday, August 14, is the 61st Annual Prince William County Fair! The music entertainment this year will be Nocturnal Rush and they will be performing from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Prince William County Fair is proud to return as the largest county fair in Virginia. The fair will feature livestock exhibits, a rodeo, pet shows, carnival rides, Civil war encampment, a variety of midway shoes, a truck and tractor pull, demolition derbies, and lots of other games.

100 Needy Students Receive School Supplies Shopping Spree

Early this morning 100 local students in need were given the opportunity to visit a local Target store to buy back-to-school supplies. The Salvation Army and Target teamed up to help these students purchase a variety of supplies for the upcoming school year.

The Salvation Army and Target are helping a total of 12,000 students nationwide with the Target School Spree. Each student that is selected by the Salvation Army gets an $80 Target Giftcard for school supplies.

There were 30 students from DC and Prince Georges County, 30 from Alexandria and Arlington County, 30 from Fairfax and Prince William County, and 10 from Montgomery County.
