Holiness Tabernacle's Annual Hallowed One's Day Festival

Holiness Tabernacle Church Of God In Christ, located at 1440 Old Bridge Road in Woodbridge, VA, will be hosting its annual Hallowed One's Day Festival, October 31, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Hallowed One's day is a safe and exciting alternative to Halloween.  Everyone is invited to this fun-filled event.  There will be carnival rides, bouncers, arts and crafts and a host of family fun.  In addition, food will be available:  ribs, hot dogs, nachos, hamburgers, popcorn and more.  A $15 armband will give visitors complete access to all the rides.  So come out to Holiness Tabernacle COGIC for an awesome time.

Veterans Receive Free Car or Motorcycle Wash

Manassas, Va.-based, Speedy Green Car Wash is thanking all veterans by offering a free car or motorcycle wash to veterans on Veterans’ Day, Thurs., Nov. 11. In conjunction with the Veteran’s Day salute, The Battlefield Young Marines of Chantilly, Va. will be greeting veterans and hosting a ‘wash and wax’ fundraiser on Sun., Nov. 14 to help benefit their youth education and service program for boys and girls.  Speedy Green Car Wash features the Washington, D.C. region’s first motorcycle wash and the first do-it-yourself car detail center in the United States. Art for Wounded Marines

The following was sent to us by Nina Foster:

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is pleased to sponsor a project to collect original art for wounded Marines. The Museum will collect children's art work from now until November 30, 2010. The collection of original student works will be displayed in the Wounded Warrior wing of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Children are welcome to draw, color or paint a picture for our Wounded Warriors, along with including a message. The only requirement is that the art fit on an 8 1/2 X 11 inch piece of paper. Be sure that each child puts his or her name, hometown and grade level on the back of the artwork submission.

Project Mend-A-House to Hold 2nd Annual Golf Tournament

Project Mend-A-House, a nonprofit home-repair group, will host its 2nd annual golf tournament this Friday. The money raised in the tournament will go directly towards which fixing up homes for seniors, the disabled and low-income Prince William County area residents.

The tournament will be held at Bristow Manor Golf Club, which is located at 11507 Valley View Dr. in Bristow, VA. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. and the tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m.

The entry fee is $100 per golfer. You can mail your registration to Project Mend-A-House's office at 7987 Ashton Ave., Suite 231, Manassas, Va. 20109. Tournament sponsorships are also available for $1,000, hole-in-one sponsorships are $500 and hole sponsorships are $100 each. Dominion VA Power to Present 7 K-12 Educational Grants

Tomorrow evening, Thursday, October 7, Dominion Virginia Power will present checks to 7 area schools to help strengthen the mathematics and science skills of students in grades K-12. The event is being hosted at Hollin Meadows Math and Science Focus school and the students from the school will be providing tours of the irrigation system they built as a result of last year’s grant from Dominion. Using wind and solar power they built, the students hooked rain barrels together to create an irrigation system to complete their learning garden.

The event will run from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 5:15 p.m. at Hollin Meadows Math and Science Center Learning Garden located at 2310 Nordok Place in Alexandria, VA.

Neighborhood Cleanup This Weekend

This Saturday, October 2, from 8:00 a.m. to noon, Prince William County is sponsoring a neighborhood cleanup for the residents of Yorkshire.

Dumpsters will be available at Emmanuel Baptist Church, which is located at 8006 Centreville Road in Manassas, VA. The dumpsters will be available to collect trash and debris, and no liquids or commercial waste will be accepted. The county’s Department of Public Works’ Neighborhood Services Division will be providing the dumpsters and the county Litter Control Crew will be available to assist with any large items.
