Parent Workshop Helps Students with Disabilities Transition into Elementary School

From Prince William County Public Schools:

The Prince William County Public Schools Office of Special Education Parent Resource Center will host a free workshop for parents entitled, “Transitioning Students with IEPs to Elementary School,” on Monday, February 13 (snow date February 27). The workshop will take place from 7–9 p.m. in Room 1101 of the Kelly Leadership Center located at 14715 Bristow Road in Manassas.

This workshop will review the special education eligibility process for rising elementary school students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), or those with a suspected disability. It will feature separate breakout sessions for parents of students who will follow the general kindergarten curriculum and students who will follow a functional curriculum in a small class setting. Topics to be covered include academic and social expectations, overview of a typical day, and ideas to promote school readiness. Advance registration is required for the workshop. Childcare will not be available. Sign and foreign language interpreter services are available if requested by Monday, February 6. To register or for further information, call the Parent Resource Center at 703.791.8846 or email bamaher@pwcs.edu or howartmj@pwcs.edu
