Metropolitan School Of The Arts’ Tap Ensemble Presents Preview Show, Mar. 12

Metropolitan School of the Arts Youth Tap Ensemble is performing a preview to its 10-year anniversary show, scheduled in May, called 2x2, at MSA’s Black Box Theatre at 5775 Barclay Drive in Alexandria, Va. Tickets are $5 per child, $10 per adult. Tap students perform duets that are choreographed and performed by more than 20 tap artists. For more tickets, go to www.metropolitanarts.org.

Cook in Tuscany, of Haymarket, Va. donated two Tuscan culinary tours for the Comfort Cases, based in Silver Spring, Md. The live and silent auctions offered several trips and luxury packages. For more information about the tour, go to www.cookintuscany.com

The winners of the Cook in Tuscany culinary tours will be able treat themselves in the Tuscan lifestyle and discover the region’s passion for food and fun. The tour provides daily cooking lessons from local “Nonnas”, first class accommodations in the medieval hill-top village of Montefollonico, visits to regional wineries and cheese makers, tours of local and historic sites and many recreational activities.

“It’s our honor to be able to support Comfort Cases, we hope that our auction items can help provide hundreds of backpacks for foster care kids,” said Linda Meyers, co-owner of Cook in Tuscany.

Wil Haygood, author and associate producer of the blockbuster film, The Butler, will present at BASIS Independent McLean on Fri., Mar. 10 from 6:30 pm to 8 p.m., to talk about writing and how his work launched him onto the world stage. The event is free and open to public, located at 8000 Jones Branch Drive in McLean, Va. Haygood will also be available for a book signing, as his two books will be available for sale; The Butler and his latest book, Showdown, which chronicles the battle of the Supreme Court nomination of Thurgood Marshall. BASIS Independent McLean Earns First Place at  34th Annual Northern Virginia Regional MATHCOUNTS Com

For the first time in almost 30 years, the 34th Annual Northern Virginia Regional MATHCOUNTS Competition awarded first place to a new math champion: BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) of McLean, Va., which opened in 2016. BIM’s middle school math team placed first among schools in the Northern Virginia Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition (comprised of 17 schools). Longfellow Middle School of Falls Church, Va., who has historically earned the first place award since the 1980s, came in second place. Metropolitan School of the Arts – Breakfast with Santa at Hotel Monaco

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Va. will host their annual Breakfast with Santa on Sun., Dec. 18 at 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Hotel Monaco, 480 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. Tickets range in price from $35 to $45 per person. All tickets can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.

Performers will join Santa for the annual Breakfast with Santa. The family-event offers Sunday brunch at the Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria, complete with a live performance from Metropolitan School of the Arts’ dancers and visits from Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Suzy Snowflake and her International Dolls.

“Breakfast with Santa combines the magic of Christmas with festive dance performances and favorite holiday characters, perfect for the whole family to enjoy,” said Melissa Dobbs, executive director and founder of Metropolitan School of the Arts of Alexandria, Va.

Ebrahim Rasool, former Ambassador to the U.S. from South Africa, will be speaking at BASIS Independent McLean about “Nelson Mandela’s Lessons for Thought Leadership for the Next Generation” on Wed., Nov. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 8000 Jones Branch Road in McLean, Va.
