DROP OFF TOYS FOR CASA at MONZA/CARMELLO’s and GET $10 GIFT CARD

From now through Dec. 24, Manassas residents can drop off toys for CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates of Children) of Manassas, Va., at Monza and Carmello’s of Old Town Manassas, Va. in return for a  $10 Monza/Carmello’s gift card. For more information, go to www.carmellos.com.

“CASA is a tremendous support for kids in need of support, guidance and love, and we want to be able to bring them some extra kindness during the holidays, by offering them some surprise holiday gifts,” said Alice Pires, owner of Carmello’s and Monza of Old Town Manassas, Va.

Carmello’s of Old Town Manassas, Va. is offering a Christmas Eve a la carte dinner on Tues, Dec. 24 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Menu prices vary. For reservations, go to www.carmellos.com.

Appetizer selections include: Brick-oven Oysters Rockefeller, Spitada de Camarao, Mini-Beef Wellingtons, Risotto Fritters and Calamari Fritti, as well as two soups, Lobster Bisque and Roasted Butternut Squash.

Autumn Mesclun Salad, Caesar Salad and Chopped House Salad will be offered along with several entrees, including Lobster Mascarpone Ravioli, Deconstructed Veal Agnolotti Lasagna, Pan-seared Filet Mignon with Bacon-Wrapped Scallops, Pan-roasted Fish of the Day, Slow-braised Beef Short Ribs, Portuguese Paella Valenciana and Red-Wine Braised Duroc Pork Shank.

Monza is hosting a Dogfish Head Brewery Beer Dinner on Wed., Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. for $75 inclusive, per person. The four-course dinner will feature Dogfish Head beers that complement new fall menu items. For reservations, go to eatmonza.com.                                         

The four-course dinner includes the 90 Min IPA with Meat and Cheese Platter; Namaste with Namaste Drunken Smoked Bacon Mussels, includes garlic, shallots, scallions, dijon crème fraiche and crostini; Punkin Ale with Four-Cheese Ravioli, served with wilted spinach, diced tomatoes, parmesan, creamy alfredo and pumpkin seeds; Indian Brown Ale with All Natural Braised Beef Ragu and Butternut Squash Gnocchi, served with carrots, celery, arugula, parmesan and olive oil ; and Aged-World Wide Stout with Homemade Bread Pudding, includes chocolate, cherries and crème anglaise.

CITY of MANASSAS HOSTS FREE RECYCLEFEST; CELEBRATES AMERICA RECYCLES DAY, Sat. NOV. 15
In celebration of America Recycles Day, the City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities is hosting its annual Recyclefest on Sat., Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Manassas Transfer Station, located at 8305 Quarry Road. Residents can recycle items and shred documents for FREE. For more information, call 703-257-8252 or go to www.manassascity.org.

Manassas, Va. residents will be able to recycle their household hazardous waste, electronic waste, gently used clothing and even shred paper documents for FREE.

“Each year, the United States generates more than 250 million tons of municipal solid waste— that’s more than four pounds per person, per day,” said Monica Boehringer, refuse and recycling coordinator of Manassas Public Works and Utilities.

METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the ARTS to HOST a 30-min NUTCRACKER w/BRUNCH in OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will present their pint-sized, 30-minute version of the Nutcracker for younger audiences, along with a breakfast on Sun., Dec. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria, Va. Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will present their annual Nutcracker performances on Sat., Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Sun., Nov. 24 at 12 p.m. and
5 p.m.at the Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center at the Annandale Campus in Annandale, Va. Ticket prices range from $21 to $27 and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.
