ADVANTAGE PHYSICAL THERAPY TO OPEN SECOND LOCATION in MANASSAS

Advantage Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, LLC of Gainesville, Va., is opening its second location in Manassas at the Signal Hill Professional Building on 9161 Liberia Avenue on Mon., July 23. The Manassas and Gainesville offices offer services for sports injuries, joint replacement rehabilitation, auto accident injuries, arthritic conditions, spinal conditions, personally designed prevention programs and more. Open Monday through Thursday, 8a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. to
4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

MANASSAS BEGINS WATER and ELECTRIC LINE REPLACEMENT WORK

The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities is replacing water lines and electric lines now through Oct. 31 in parts of Manassas. Crews will work from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions. The construction, along Center Street from East Street to Zebedee Street, will cause night closures only, while two-lane traffic is maintained during the day. Ashby Ponds resident Dick Rabkin worked as a patent attorney who helped bring the Rubik’s Cube to America
 

(ASHBURN, VIRGINIA) – Dick Rabkin spent over 15 years working as a patent and trademark attorney for Ideal Toy Company, which manufactured and distributed toys, dolls, and games beginning with the Teddy Bear in the early 1900s.  “I had toys and games all over my office,” said Rabkin.  The Ideal Company’s largest competitors were Hasbro and Mattel before the company was dissolved in 1985 a few years after being purchased by CBS.  Some notable toys produced by the Ideal Toy Company include Mr. Machine, Chrissy, Betsy Wetsy, the Magic 8-Ball, and the Rubik’s Cube.

Largest VA Regional Airport Receives Multi-Million Dollar Grant from Federal Aviation Administration

On July 1, 2012, Manassas Regional Airport, Virginia’s largest regional airport, will begin construction to extend their longest runway by an extra 500 feet. The airport received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant for $3,974,723 and $353,309 from a Virginia Department of Aviation grant to lengthen their existing runway to 6200 feet. The extension will permit aircraft owners more runway to stop in inclement weather, allow aircraft to take more fuel for coast-to-coast flights and reduce noise levels to the north of the airport.

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation (ASF), which offers disadvantaged youth and young adults a paid, work-based apprentice program in boat building that prepares participants for careers in the building trades, received a $50,000 grant from The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. at its 25th anniversary on June 5th at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

The City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities department received the 2011 Excellence in Water Treatment Plant Performance award by the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water.
