Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry Helps Underserved in Virginia | Business
My Tran, DDS of Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry in Gainesville, Va. is an active participant in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Mission of Mercy project, a program that targets underserved parts of Virginia, where there are not enough dental practitioners to adequately address the community’s oral health needs. Dr. Tran completed her residency at the New York University College of Dentistry where she was the chief resident of pediatric dentistry. While in residency, she spent time at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiners working on her research and training medical examiners on a new dental forensic protocol. This training provided her the opportunity to work on a 5,000- year-old mummy tooth. She produced research entitled “DNA Isolation from Forensic Dental Specimens,” which won an award for Outstanding Research during the Research Day Competition at New York University. In addition, it was presented at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry 2010 meeting and will be presented at the American Academy of Forensic Science later this year.
Tran earned her degree in dentistry from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry with honors. She was active in several programs, including Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile, Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity.
Co-owners of Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Rhea Davis is a native of Vienna, Va. and Dr. Arshia Shingler is originally from Prince William County. Both are graduates of the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University’s, School of Dentistry in Richmond, Va., where they also completed their pediatric residencies.
