“Our organization has always had a goal of reaching out internationally to help give the gift of corrected vision, so we are thrilled to be invited to help the Gomba, Uganda community with vision screenings,” said Nicole Peppers, founder and president of Vision With a Purpose in Manassas, Va. “Vision screenings for those in need of glasses, especially school children, can make a difference between struggling to get by and realizing one’s full potential,” said Peppers.
Vision With a Purpose is working on a vision screening project with the Prince William County, Va. schools for 2012-2013 in partnership with Virginia Commerce Bank of Woodbridge, Va.
The charity was founded on three key principles: vision screenings provide a first line of defense against vision impairments that cause other problems; according to the International Centre for Eyecare Education, more than 563 million people can have their vision corrected with a pair of eyeglasses worldwide; and it costs less to preempt eye problems than to treat them after they occur.
The organization will provide vision screenings to those most at-risk of not receiving a vision screenings. Many populations are demographically shifting toward the predominance of older age groups, which translates to an ever-increasing number of people at risk for visual impairment in the future. This reality has the potential to negatively impact the quality of life in regards to health, economic, and social stability.
