As it brings a much-needed breath of fresh air to the retail landscape, J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE:JCP) has breathed new life into its store at Potomac Mills Mall.  The new store will celebrate its grand opening on March 2, showcasing the transformation under way at jcpenney as it re-imagines the department-store shopping experience.

“We’re going to treat customers the way they want to be treated -- fair and square -- with straightforward pricing, great value and excitement every time they shop with us,” said Kevin Kennedy, store manager. “We think everyone will be pleased with the new jcpenney.”

The new store replaces the former jcpenney Outlet Store, which closed in July 2011. The 106,000-square-foot store has been completely remodeled into a modern department store with wide aisles, new lighting, artful merchandise presentation and unmatched customer service. Shoppers will immediately notice the new jcpenney logo, pricing strategy and monthly cadence, including new in-store signage reflecting true price clarity as well as edited merchandise assortments for the monthly store set.

Fair and Square Pricing and Monthly Promotions in Sync with Customers’ Lives

On Feb. 1, jcpenney introduced its unique Fair and Square Pricing strategy, which includes three types of prices:

·      Everyday, regular prices, which are always great.

·      Month-Long Values, even better prices on the things you need now.

·      Best Prices, jcpenney’s lowest prices, which always happen on the first and third Fridays of every month as jcpenney makes room for exciting new merchandise.

These prices are coupled with a new Happy Returns policy that is equally clear and simple -- jcpenney will take back any item, anytime, anywhere -- and apromotional and merchandise cadence that is in sync with customers’ lives. Rather than inundating the customer with sales, coupons, rebates and retail gimmicks, jcpenney will host 12 promotional events each year, on a monthly calendar. Each month includes even better values on the things customers are looking to buy during the month and a host of exciting products and services that are unique to the month. Merchandise and visual properties will be reset once each month to create a fresh, dynamic and exciting store for customers to visit.

Re-inventing the In-Store Experience with New and Transformed Brands

The uncluttered store environment makes it easy to shop from jcpenney’s outstanding collection of brands, including the iconic Liz Claiborne brand found only at jcpenney and exclusive collections from MNG by Mango® and Call It Spring®. The store also showcases sought-after national brands such as Levi’s®, Nike®, adidas®, Calphalon® and Carter’s®, as well as jcpenney’s exclusive collaborations with top designers such as nicole by Nicole Miller®, Bisou-Bisou® by Michele Bohbot, I “Heart” Ronson® by Charlotte Ronson, Cindy Crawford Style™ and JOE Joseph Abboud®.

As part of jcpenney’s transformation, the Potomac Mills jcpenney will join all jcpenney stores in a month-by-month, shop-by-shop strategy to update all stores with new and exciting merchandise and presentation. Starting this fall, two to three brand shops will be installed monthly, each and every month, over a three-year transformation period. In addition to transforming customers’ favorite existing brands such as IZOD®, Liz Claiborne® and The Original Arizona Jean Company®, jcpenney will add new brand experiences, including kitchen products from Martha Stewart® and young women’s fashions from l’amour nanette lepore™, both set to debut in spring 2013.

jcpenney Just Got More Beautiful

Woodbridge customers also will experience the new, full-service, 1,700-square-foot Sephora inside jcpenney. This in-store shop recreates Sephora’s unique retail concept, which is rooted in distinctive open-sell store design, the beauty expertise of its sales consultants and, most importantly, its unparalleled combination of classic and emerging brands across a broad range of product categories including skincare, color, fragrance, bath and body, smilecare and haircare, as well as Sephora's own private label. Sephora was founded in France in 1970 and acquired in 1997 by Paris-based LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world's leading luxury products group, and has been transforming beauty in the U.S. since 1998.

Grand Opening Celebration

A grand opening celebration is planned for March 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the store. During the ceremony, Store Manager Kevin Kennedy will present a$5,000 jcpenney afterschool access grant to the Boys & Girls Club Hylton Branch in Dale City that will allow more children to participate in the Club’s afterschool programs. jcpenney will also provide the Club with five $50 gift cards to help students purchase school apparel. The store opens at 10 a.m., and the first 450 customers will receive Sephora gift bags.

The new jcpenney is located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
