The following was sent to us by Prince William County Public Schools:The official September 30 student membership count for Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) is 79,115 students. From 2009 to 2010, total enrollment grew by 2,460 students, or 3.2 percent. This is compared to growth from 2008 to 2009 of 2,999 students, or 4.1 percent.   Across Virginia, student membership counted in schools on September 30 is the official number reported to the State Department of Education. Student membership counts are used for a variety of purposes, including student enrollment projections, budget allocations, public information, state and federal financial aid, and capital facilities planning.   The county has 55 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 10 high schools, three special education schools, two alternative schools, two traditional schools, one special site school, and an Academic Year Governor’s School. The School Division has four schools under construction, including a high school and two elementary schools that will open in the fall of 2011, and a middle school that is scheduled to open in September 2012.
