Chef Robert Barolin at City Square Café in Old Town Manassas is featuring wine classes on Thursdays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Barolin, a former wine representative for various vineyards, will teach a class about “Getting to Know your Wines.” He’ll discuss student’s wine knowledge, how to taste wine, what to look for when purchasing wine, which wines are trending, teach the names and origin of the wine grapes, discuss why the same grape tastes different in different regions, instruct about the best wine and food pairings and test students’ final knowledge with a blind wine tasting. Class size is limited to eight people. Cost is $35 per week or $250 in advance. Call 703.369.6022 to sign-up.

Two red and two white wines will be tasted in every class and paired with light hors d’oeuvres. Attendees must sign up for all eight classes.

City Square Café provides tapas and homemade American bistro favorites with an international flair, seven days a week. Hours of operation include: Mon. through Thurs., 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (lunch and dinner,) Fri., 11 a.m.to 10 p.m. (lunch and dinner), Sat., 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and Sun., 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (breakfast and lunch).

Wine is my first love. I love how wine enhances good food. And it’s exciting to see others experience that connection between a great wine and how it can be paired with a dish to make the dish that much more delicious, said Robert Barolin, co-owner of City Square Cafe.

Established in 1996, City Square Café in Old Town Manassas, Va. was founded and is owned by Robert and Susana Barolin, immigrants from Uruguay whose cuisine is based on their Italian roots. City Square Café features homemade American bistro favorites with an international flair, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and tapas seasonal menus in a quaint, warm environment with home-like comfort and serving creative, sophisticated food. Surrounded by the charm of historic Old Town Manassas, City Square Café patrons enjoy the view of the historic 1914 Manassas Train Depot, an active train stop for daily Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express commuter trains. The Barolins have been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years, previous owners of The Sandwich Factory in Manassas, which they eventually renovated and re-created to become City Square Café.  City Square Café received the Certificate of Excellence by the Mayor of Manassas, Va. and is a member of Historic Manassas Inc., The Prince William County Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce and the Old Town Business Association.
