Briar Patch Donates Rooms for Veteran's Day | Business
Reprinted with permission from Ashburn Patch -- Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn in scenic Middleburg plans to offer free rooms to veterans as part of a nationwide promotion this week to honor those who have served our country.
B&Bs and inns across the country are providing free rooms on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 to honor servicemen and women now serving or who have previously served time with one of the country's military forces.
Two B&B owners started the program in 2009. Both were members of the West Virginia B&B Association and this year the veteran program has expanded to include 49 states, 8 international locations and more than 850 Inns.
Interested B&Bs sign up on the website www.bnbsforvets.org to offer one or more rooms available on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 10, to active and retired military personnel. Word of the website has spread rapidly among the military and veteran community through email promotions, social media channels and some media coverage.
The owners of Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn have a vested interest in the military. Dan Haendel is a veteran (retired LT Colonel in the Army JAG Corps reserves) and currently works at the Pentagon. He and his wife, Ellen Goldberg, decided to go all-out to honor veterans and their families and offer all nine of their bedrooms at the Inn for the nights of Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 enabling eighteen families to take advantage of a home-away-from-home country setting.
Within two days all of the rooms were spoken for and they had a long waiting list.
"We are honored to participate in this promotion to honor our troops. It is a small token of our appreciation for what veterans and their families give to protect our great country, and our way of thanking them for their service." said owner, Ellen Goldberg. "We would like to encourage more B&Bs to think about joining this great promotion to honor our veterans in the coming years".
