Fimian, Connolly Work To Get Out The Vote

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) - Rep. Gerald Connolly's campaign held a rousing rally outside their headquarters, headlined by the Vice President's wife, Dr. Jill Biden. "He supports healthcare for veterans, health care for you!"

While she begged the crowd to keep knocking on doors to get out the vote, Connolly had some news about absentee ballots.

"In our early analysis, we won the absentees ballots!" Connolly, a Democrat, told his supporters.

Connolly is running for re-election from Virginia's 11th District.

Connolly may have benefited from a recent slip by his challenger, Republican Keith Fimian.

"He owes an apology to the families, the grieving families in our communities," shouted Connolly.

Fimian has apologized several times for saying if the students at Virginia tech had been "packing heat," the shootings might not have happened. He says the issue has been blown out of proportion.

Candidate Runs From Questions About Gunshow Loophole

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WUSA) -- Not only is Keith Fimian, (R) VA 11th Congressional District Candidate, running for office... he was running from the media on Friday. After the morning debate with his opponent Representative Gerald Connolly, (D) VA 11th District, on WTOP, he did not want to answer anymore questions about guns or the gunshow loophole.

" I've said I agree with Senator Warner and Wolf and Webb," he said, and was asked what HE thinks.
"I think dealers at gunshows should do background checks," Fimian said.

But licensed dealers are already required to do background checks at gunshows. Closing the loophole would force everyone else selling guns at gunshows to do background checks. Fimian's opponent, congressman Gerry Connolly supports legislation to close it. Guns became an issue in this race after Fimian said this in a recent interview:

Virginia State Trooper Recalls I-95 Accident

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA) -- Three weeks ago, Trooper E.D. Brown was confined to a hospital bed.

Trooper Brown was mere inches from dying after he responded to a crash on I-95 near the Prince William County Parkway. A tractor trailer rammed into a car slowing to pass the accident.  That car came barreling toward the trooper.  The tractor trailer driver was charged with reckless driving.

The 'Move Over' law in Virginia was just ammended this past summer to include not just red and blue lights but also flashing amber lights for construction workers and tow truck drivers.

"To think one day I was here, the next day I could've been gone. My wife could have been planning a funeral," Trooper Brown said. "I looked over towards me. I jumped straight up."

He avoided getting pinned in but rolled onto the car. His head slammed against the car windshield.

Criminal Profiler Says Same Gunman Most Likely To Blame In Three Shootings

CHANTILLY, Va. (WUSA) -- Authorities are running ballistics tests to determine whether Tuesday's shooting at a recruiting center in Chantilly is connected to shootings at the Pentagon and the U.S. Marine Corps Museum.

Who might be doing this? We know two characteristics for certain about the shooter, if in fact it's the same person. First, the person wants to create fear at the military sites targeted. Second, we now know the person is familiar with Chantilly, Virginia.

Former FBI profiler, Gregg McCrary, believes there's a good chance the same person is responsible for all three recent shootings at local military sites. "It's more likely than not it's going to turn out it's the same shooter. Although at this point, you can't rule out the possibility it's a copy cat."

McCrary says the third shooting, which happened early Tuesday or late Monday at a Marine Corps recruiting office in Chantilly, could provide significant clues.

Company to Give Away a Heating System

My Plumber Heating and Cooling prides itself on a long history of giving back to the communities that it serves.  As company founder R. Wendell Presgrave explains it, “We consider it our privilege to give something back to the communities that provide our living, and frankly, we love having the opportunity.”  My Plumber has collected many tons of food for the hungry, performed free or deeply discounted plumbing repairs for homeless shelters and in private homes throughout Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland, and sponsored sports teams, school plays and many other educational activities.  The company also has a tradition of replacing, for free, the oldest, ugliest heating system that it can find each autumn.

Young Woman Killed In Crash On I-95

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police say an SUV has crashed on Interstate 95 near Springfield, killing a 20-year-old woman.

Police say Breauna Woolen of Woodbridge was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say, 37-year-old Ashante Townes, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Police say Townes was traveling north in the far right lane when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip over.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
