Karen Murphy Has Trial Date Set For Murder Charge After Leaving Toddler In Car

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA) - "We're all here to support the Murphy family, we love Karen very much."

About 50 people came out with signs and t-shirts that read... I support the Murphy family.

"Keep supporting her; she needs it," said Murphy's defense attorney Edward MacMahon.

They gathered in front of the Prince William county court house for Karen Murphy's court appearance today. The 40 year old mother of three, and veterinarian, is charged with murder in the death of her 2-year-old son Ryan.

"We're just here to support the Murphy family," one supporter said.

On the morning of June 17th, Dr. Murphy apparently forgot to drop off her son Ryan when she went to work at the Caring Friends Animal Hospital in Bristow. For some seven hours, he was left in her mini van. When her husband went to pick him up from day care and didn't find him, he called his wife. She then discovered her little boy in the minivan which was parked in their driveway.

Woodbridge Teen Loses Limb, Gains the Power to Motivate Others

Woodbridge Teen Loses Limb, Gains the Power to Motivate Others

A Super NoVA is a person that stands out in the crowd of Northern Virginians. Daniel Evan Carroll II, an eleventh-grader at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, is this week’s Super NoVA for his efforts to motivate others. When he was just 9-years-old he was in a major automobile accident on I-95 in front of the exit for the Quantico Marine Corps Base.

“I remember waking up in the hospital and I just screamed. I don’t remember anything after that,” said Daniel.

While he was in a coma his right arm had to be amputated. During his two months of hospitalization, his mother Lynn found out about the Amputee Coalition’s Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp.

This year Daniel is one of 100 kids with limb loss from across the U.S. selected to attend the youth camp. Carroll will be attending the summer camp in Ohio next week, marking his 5th year at the camp. Daniel is now a Leader-in-Training.
