Toddlers Wander Away From Daycare, Worker Arrested

MONTCLAIR, Va. (WUSA) -- Two toddlers walked away from a daycare for at least an hour, before someone found them wandering and called for help, police said.

It happened Wednesday at around 10:45 a.m., when police were flagged down by a person who spotted two young girls, ages one and three. They were wandering the streets for at least an hour, police said.

Maleighia Grace Shockey, 23, of Montclair, was supposed to be taking care of the young children in the daycare she was running out of her home, police said.

"It was determined that the children had been unaccounted for about an
hour. Family members responded and took custody of the children. The
accused was arrested and charged. Child Protective Services has been
notified of the incident," Prince William County Police said in a news release.

Shockey is being charged with two counts of felony child neglect. Her court date unavailable and she was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, police said.
